If you've seen Manduka's latest towel collection, you may have noticed that it's different from towels they've released before.
The towel prints, designed by textile designer and watercolorist Heidi Lister-Hevesy, are paintings made just for us.
Its depth and complexity is incredible and perfectly reflects the budding floral spirit that we are communicating with our Spring/Summer collection.
Heidi has a long association with yoga.
I'd like to share a bit more of her story.
Growing up in a small rural village in England, Heidi loved drawing from an early age.
Encouraged by a teacher who saw an interest in pattern in her work, Heidi studied textile design in college and then moved to New York to work in a textile design studio.
It was in New York that Heidi discovered yoga and her other passion, rock climbing.
She hopes to use the strength and breathing techniques she has learned through yoga to reach even greater heights.
Art, yoga, climbing, all of these continue to flourish in her life.
For Heidi, yoga and rock climbing intersect seamlessly and the two are complementary.
Both call upon our whole being, but rock climbing comes with an adrenaline rush and a certain amount of stress.
Yoga helps us enter a space of calm and peace even amidst potentially demanding movement.
These are beautiful, harmonious opposites, and she says many of the climbers she knows are avid yoga practitioners.
Both are places where we can become more whole with ourselves.
Her designs this season are full of life and mystery, so it's no surprise to see her walking the line in both realms.
When starting a piece, Heidi walks in nature for colour inspiration.
Her love of the natural world informed this work.
What we thought was so amazing was that she just started drawing.
I trust that when I say you don't know what's going to happen and it's messy and there's paint everywhere.
Overthinking it doesn't work, so I take an intuitive approach.
As in yoga, she accepts that one stroke leads to the next without prescribing where it will end.
We loved this intentional embrace of imperfection.
Her experiences, often random, can manifest into something beautiful.
Working with our team, she narrowed down the color and pattern choices and the collection was born.
We feel incredibly fortunate to be able to bring you Heidi's art this season.
How incredible is it that each of these Yogitos towels began life as a one-of-a-kind painting?
Heidi created such beauty and detail in all of them.
See which ones speak to you.
And maybe her art can help you reach a deeper understanding of the presence, joy, and bloom of your own practice.
